Besides opinions from folks here you might want to check the zdnet site for
tests of flatbed scanners and comments from users. There was a pretty
extensive review earlier this year.
I'd like to recommend the Mustek 1200 ED, which I use, but it's been
discontinued and the replacement, while seemingly similar, isn't quite as
good (I've tried both).
