Hi,
There has been interest recently concerning film scanners.
I just got a Tamarack 2400FS slide/film scanner - yes they
have a very bad reputation but I just wanted something cheap ($180US)
to send some slide scans to friends or put them on the web.
Anyway for a sample of what it can do see:

The first slide is a fishing village in Nova Scotia (Lunenburg I think but I
don't have my notes here) and the second is on the shore of Lake Huron in
Ontario.
At this size the scans look pretty good but the dark areas get a lot noisier
as the size gets bigger. In general it seems to have a lot of trouble with
dark areas and I may just scan my favorite slides, get rid of it and start
saving up for the Scanwit.
