Hi again William:
The Zuiko line of lenses are the original manufacturer's lenses for the
Olympus OM collection. They are professional quality, designed from the
beginning to compete successfully with other top-of-the-line camera gear:
Nikon, Canon, etc., etc. They are usually smaller for focal length and
lighter than most other lenses in their categories. However, they are rugged,
excellently designed lenses intended for use in any situation. So are the
cameras. After a short introductory try-out period several international
press agencies and professionals switched from the big name costly, bulky,
heavy gear (read Nikon) to Olympus. Not only were the Olympus cameras and
lenses first class pieces of equipment and able to take a lot of punishment,
but also they were cheaper to replace when lost or destroyed. And carry
weights for comparable gear was dramatically reduced. That means a lot when
you're out in the field.
It's hard to go wrong with a Zuiko lens. There are many of them available
used in good condition and at good prices. So it's hard to conceive why
people would look elsewhere. <g> As you have noticed from the list, there
is a loyal following.
There are several other lenses which will fit the OM cameras, some with
Olympus type bayonet mounts, others with suitable adapters: Sigma, Soligar,
Tamron, Tokina and Vivitar to name a few. You have a rather wide choice.
Happy photographing. (:o>)
Regards,
Robert
