Hi, Gang...
My collection got too big (and valuable) to keep in the assorted gadget bags
and cases I was using, and I wanted a solution that would provide protection
as well as convenience when I wanted to admire and play with my
acquisitions. I bought 3 Quantaray aluminum cases at Ritz Camera (your town
probably has at least 1 or 2 of these ubiquitous outlets), and they are also
on the web. They are only $60.00 each, and come with foam as well as
rubber/plywood inserts to used as dividers. I use one for bodies, one for
most of my lenses and one for flash/bounce grips/winders/shoes/connecters,
etc. I have 11 OM bodies, and for that case I removed the foam and placed 2
of the dividers to create 3 compartments across the case. They work out
perfectly to the width of an OM body. I then cut and glued with pliobond 3
dividers per compartment to sub-divide those into a total of 12 compartments
in the case, each of which is a perfect nest for one OM Body. One case does
not come with enough hard dividers to do this, but I used the dividers from
the other two as well, since I just cut out the foam for the lenses and
other components. For the lenses, I tore out the outline of foam which
gives a snug fit, and then replaced it in the hole after cutting an inch of
so off the top, and this gives the lens protection as well as a good
appearance without being sunken all the way into the foam hole. The
Quantaray foam is cheap foam, so for the lens case I used Halliburton foam
which I got at my local camera shop for like, $10.00. It's much denser and
looks better as well as giving best protection. In the Accessory case, I
have all flash units in the foam, and I assembled Winder 2 to Power Bounce
Grip 2 along with TTL and M Grip Cord, so all I have to do is grab the
assembly and it's ready to go, or just take the winder off of it if that's
all I want. I use a Omni 3 Lowepro to put stuff in that I am going to be
using. It's a really neat case and Henry's has them for less than $50.00.
This system seems to be working out well for handling substantial amounts of
equipment safely and conveniently, but now the 3 Quantarays are at or near
capacity...................................
Have a good one!
John
