Thomas:
I've taken to a two-part system:
1. Airtight, humidity-tight storage cases, available from GSI Outdoors, at
http://www.spelean.com.au/GSI/GSIlexan2.html#Boxes
(You can also go to www.gsioutdoors.com, but their website isn't "populated"
yet.)
These boxes are made from Lexan, transparent and waterproof. The largest size
accommodates the Zuiko 300/4.5 and 200/4.0 together (which is how I'm using one
of them), or two OM bodies with normal lenses attached (which is how I'm using
another one of them). Prices range from about $15.00 to $30.00 CDN at my local
Mountain Equipment Co-op; I'm sure they can be had for similar elsewhere.
2. Hydrosorbent materials (silica gel with indicators); I use the 40 gram
rechargeable aluminum cartridges from
http://www.dehumidify.com/ProdDisc.html
One cartridge fits nicely into the top of each of the above-mentioned Lexan
cases (medium and large size). I also have a dial-type relative humidity
indicator inside one of the cases -- it informs me that the relative humidity
is too low to measure (somewhere below 20%). Since 40 0s the threshold above
which fungal growth can be triggered, this makes me happy. Because the cases
are transparent, I can always see what I've got stored in them, as well as the
various humidity/saturation indicators in the case or built-in to the
cartridges.
It took me a while to get this going -- until I discovered all this stuff, I
stuck with dehumidifying cartridges in thick plastic bags to protect the lenses
etc. This way is more elegant and (surprisingly) both more compact and more
convenient. Total price: about $135.00 Canadian. Cases snap open instantly to
assemble that kit you need for a day's shooting, and they're all labelled so I
know where everything is and can re-assemble everything into their correct
cases (not all combinations of lenses etc. fit!).
