Denatured alcohol...that's the stuff...at least according to John himself.
He's got detailed foam replacement instructions on his Web site at
http://www.zuiko.com/7Backfoam.htm .
By the way, I've got an OM-2n with a small brown spot projected in the
viewfinder. It's not on the mirror and not on the screen. It's on the
prism and John advises it's probably due to foam breakdown in the prism
housing (there's a slab of foam on top of most prisms). It's best, he says,
to have this foam replaced before matters worsen. The "spotting" is due to
the deteriorating foam eating through the prism silver. The damage is
permanent.
I just thought you might wish to be alerted to that while you're in foam
replacement mode. Now THAT would be a job for John, I would think.
