They're not rectangular, and they have a big hole in the middle, but
I've found that the platter from a dead hard disc works rather well for
this job. I'm sure everyone knows someone who occasionally gets a dud
drive. When cutting one from sheet metal you'd have to be careful of
bending at the edges, which might upset the levelling. Disc drive
platters OTOH are very flat.
