Well, I took it out today. Turns out the focal length is wrong for what I
was doing, but I got an impression. I liked it a lot. It's small and light
and easy to use. Focus and zoom are too close together but ok for me. I
can see it as a 'walking around lens'.
Can't compare the pics yet though.
Now, I own (or at least did own) all four of the 35-70. Both the f/4 and
f/3.6 are so much heavier that I really don't like them much. In fact I
sold my 3.6 to a listmember (hope he likes it). I may sell the f/4 and the
3.5-4.8 and just keep this little one. I actually like zooms, just for
their versatility. Both 3.5-xx are about the same weight, but this one is
smaller and a 'true Zuiko'. I got them both cheap, so I'm happy.
Now, my 100-200 impression. I like it more than I thought I would,
especially since comments on the list have been less then stellar. The 100
end isn't low enough though. I'm still back to wanting a 65-200. The 200
end could be slightly higher too.
Another game this afternoon, so I'll swap the 100-200 for an 85-250. That
should help, but I'm concerned about both the two touch zoom and the sheer
bulk. I'm going back to just one body (the 2SP, since it still has film),
so that will make up a little. I picked up a cheap monopod (Velbon) but I'm
not sure I'll use it at the first game of the season. I get enough looks
for having two motor equipped cameras (well, and a well equipped 7 year
old).
On to the 7 year old. The first game my younger 7 year old (they're 8
months apart) was the photographer. She seemed to enjoy it, although I
limited her film quantity to 12 shots (half a 24). I'll probably split a 36
next weekend if they both like it. The 135 seemed about right. I was
zooming between the ends of the 100-200, so for the far end of the field the
135 was light, but I think it's an ok compromise. They'll be excited if
their sister is just recognizable.
Now, the results aren't in yet. Who knows, maybe we're both lousy soccer
photographers.
