You don't really need to waste any film to test a hood. Put a hood (the test
subject) on the lens, open the back, and sight through the corner of the
shutter opening on "B". If the light is suddenly occluded as you get closer
and closer to the corner then you will have vignetting. As another list
member pointed out, you can sight through the lens with hood on, through the
open shutter against a bright background and try to visualize the corner. If
you can't, then there is vignetting. Also, made sure the lens is racked to
infinity to do this test as the image cone on the film will be the smallest.
This said, I don't think the hood will work on the 28/2.8.
