Hi,
I have made a lot of comparison shots with both lenses on the ratio of
1:1. The difference in image quality is minimal. Both serve a different
purpose. 80/4 works great with insects (with the f170mm diopter) when
used with T28 macro flash. Working distance is a bit small but results
are stunning. 90/2 works better when the flash is mounted on a
bracket. (I have a very similar design as in J.Shaws "closeups in
nature"). I most often use the 90/2 without the aid of flash, when very
natural looking insect or flower shots are needed.(f2=speed). 80/4 is
much faster to use for insects because it works for 2:1-1:2 range on
65-116! Hope this helps.....
