I also measured the length of the protruding rear element on each of the
lenses and they both seem to be about equal (to within a 1mm). My 80/4
is the newer auto-diaphragm model so perhaps the older manual version uses
a different rear cap.
I happen to have both 80s in my possession and can attest that the old
version has a flat rear element (so can take any standard rear cap) while
the new one has a deeply protruding rear element and therefore takes a deep
cap. Unfortunately I don't have the 135 to compare.
