Don't know about the OM-{1[n],3[ti]} but it is healthier for the clockworks
and shutter spindles in my Contax RF if its mechanical shutter is exercised
periodically. If it hasn't been used in about a month, I work it through
the equivalent of two rolls of film at fast and slow speeds along with the
self-timer.
Maybe John H. can enlighten us more on this for the mechanical OM's?
