I wouldn't hold out for a significant improvement in battery technology
- not in terms of stored energy density at any rate. Unless someone
comes up with a chemical reaction that's vastly more energetic than
those currently used, or harnesses atomic energy in a battery-sized
reactor.
Your best hope would be for a reduction in energy usage by the
electronic widgetry in the camera, IMO.
