Hello Per and others
Aquiring 2-4 screens for my OM-4's was the best thing I've ever done. IMO
the 1-series screens are hopelessly dark on a OM-4, even darker on an OM-2Sp
(but quite good on a OM-1) when using long slow telephotos from f5.6 and
down.
I'd like to warn about 1-7 screen, though, before the 2-series screens were
released I got one of these to use with telephotos. As all focusing has to
be done in the spot-circle in the middle (the rest of the screen is just
clear glass), this is very awkward to use in everyday life. I ended up with
the most boring compositions in my life ever, absolutely centered waterfowl
etc. To compose with the subject centered and then having to move the camera
for better composition is a waste of time in wildlife photograpy, this is
the very same reason why manual focus with a 2-4 screen probably is more
efficent and faster than centered autofocus, well, I guess your eyesight has
to be fairly good, though.
And the 1-7 vignettes terribly on anything smaller than 200mm, totaly
useless here. Which means sceens has to changed often (scratching?), maybe
outdoors (uuoh).
Id' suggest you go for the 2-4 screen, though you might be persuasive in
telling the store that such thing actually exists!
Anyone still interested in an 1-7 screen can give me an offer! :-) :-)
