: Have come across the above lens and may decide to pursue it further. Has
: anyone used one, seen results of one and does anyone have any idea what one
: should be worth in Ex to Ex+ condition.
All Vivitar Series I lenses distinguish themselves from the mass bulk of third
party lenses with very high mechanical and optical quality and refreshing
designs.
I believe they were designed by Vivitar and built by Kiron. When they are in
good/ex/ex+ condition they are highly recommended. Same is true for all Tokina
AT-X lenses, btw.
This 28~90mm/F2.8~3.5 is a very nice alternative for the real thing, the Zuiko
35~80mm/F2.8. For a fraction of the cost and only half a stop loss of speed in
the
tele range you'll get a high resolution lens with a larger zoom range, including
real wide angle, and a very nice close-up setting at the 28mm position (0.23 cm
->
1:6). Its weight is quite acceptable (680 g.) but you must accept the facts that
it is not a true zoom but varifocal (you must adjust focusing when zooming) and
that its filter size (67mm) is also different from other Zuikos (but then, so is
the filter size of the Zuiko 35~80: 62 mm.).
This is one of my favourite lenses when I want to travel with a minimum setup
and
don't want to bother with changing lenses. I'm very satisfied with its
sharpness.
I paid $175 for mine.
