Previously I only looked at Canon and Leitz lenses in the "Other Camera
Manufacturer" section of the Zuiko Lens Test page. I tested two Nikkors that
are well known as fine lenses and will have these uploaded in a few days.
Meanwhile, here is a preview which some might find interesting in relation to
Zuikos.
The 45mm f/2.8 GN Nikkor was their pancake lens. It isn't (or at least this
sample of an early production one isn't) as good as the 40mm f/2 Zuiko . . .
Nikon Nikkor 45mm f/2.8 GN Nikkor (non-AI, pre C model)
Vignetting = B@f/2.8
Distortion = None
Aperture Center Corner
f/2.8 C C+
f/4 B B-
f/5.6 B B
f/8 B B
f/11 A- B+
f/16 B+ B
f/22 B- B-
f/32 B- C+
Note: Moderate contrast throughout.
While we don't have a test for the 50mm f/1.2 Zuiko up yet, here is what it
will have to beat to best the current production model Nikkor 50mm f/1.2.
Note that the Nikkor looks quite a bit better at larger apertures than the
55mm f/1.2 Zuiko, but then the Zuiko was tested on a OM-1.
Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AIS
Vignetting = C@f/1.2, B-@f/1.4, B@f/2, A-@f/2.8, A@f/4
Distortion = none
Aperture Center Corner
f/1.2 A-* B-*
f/1.4 A-* B-*
f/2 A- B-
f/2.8 A- B+
f/4 B+ A-
f/5.6 B+ A-
f/8 B+ A-
f/11 B+ B+
f/16 B+ B+
Note: Overexposure for tests at f/1.2 and f/1.4 (marked as *) make these SQF
grades provisional. Resolution was high in the center for f/1.2 and f/1.4,
but contrast determination was impossible. Moderate contrast at f/2 through
f/16.
