Assuming the exact same subject, framing, and distance, I believe on the T
series flashes the ready light comes on when the capacitor is only about 80%
charged. So you could have had more power for the first shot.

Yes, but the shot will always be taken with the aperture stopped down 3 stops
from fully open.
