I've been doing this for as long as I can remember - works great and keeps
the baseplate and hinges in lovely condition. Good for resting the camera
on rocks & other hard surfaces. Of course, it's no good for tripod/monopod
work, but nice for general carrying. The strap eyelets don't rub either.
Also means I don't have metal corners knocking into me on the occasions when
I have a longer/heavier lens on board. In fact it helps steady my grip, if
anything.
