If you compare how deeply the lens elements are inset on each of these lens,
the 35mm is closer to the plane described by the filter whereas the 50/1.8 is
set farther back. Sounds like there was a plan. This then achieves the same
effect as the neat 35-70/3.6 hood that zooms in sync with the optical
zooming. To be really accurate and easy to use, each hood should have a
rectangular opening and bayonet in ala Hasselblad or certain P67 lens. As a
matter of fact, since I'm on a roll here, each filter that bayonets in should
also have a bayonet for the rectangular hood and this hood should have a lens
cap that fits inside the hood. So there!! I've said my piece about hoods--I
hate them and need them. Now lets talk about women (just kidding).
