I've had my best luck shooting HIE through a red 25 filter at ASA
400, and shooting EIR through a yellow 12 filter at 200-250. I trust
my camera's light meter, but bracket 1 stop on either side for
especially good shots.

That hasn't been a problem for me. As I understand it, the dimples
don't begin to show until you start filtering through opaque filters.
All of my work has been with a 25 (although I'm going to shoot my
next roll through a 29).
