I think someone already suggested this but it coud be a problem related to
dirty contacts in the battery chamber or a bad connection between the
battery compartment cover - which is in itself one of the contacts - and
the body where it screws in. In other words there may be dirt or grease
in the threads where it screws in causing a bad connection between the
cover and body.
