In the field of electronics wiring there is a product called 'shrink
tube'. Is is plastic tube, which has been treated with some form of
chemistry and x-Rays to be a given diameter. When you heat it with a heat
gun, or over the gas or electric hob, or even a match flame - carefully -
it shrinks to less than half the original diameter forming a tight
bond. It can be placed over the leather strap and "O" or "triangle" rings
yielding a smooth surface in contact with the camera and reducing
brassing. Radio and electronics stores carry it in various lengths and
diameters.
