I became aware of Zeiss lenses in the early 80s through the motion picture
industry - their reputation as a lens maker is enormous. I have a (very) vague
recollection of Carl Zeiss still camera lenses being marketed for remarkably
(by Carl Zeiss standards) low prices in a range of mounts about that time, and
finding out that they were 'manufactured under licence' in Japan, so I'd be
inclined to determine (if possible) whether it's a 'German' or 'Japanese'
Zeiss lens.
