I have one black OM-1 that shows no trace of white paint in the switch lever
groove, so I think that it never had any.  The white on my other black body
does make it easier to see. I doubt that there is any other functional
difference.

Micro_tools (www.micro-tools.com), a supplier to the camera repair trade, sells
a product called Laquer-Stik in a variety of colors including white.  It is
specifically intended to redo the color in engraved labels like this switch and
lens barrel markings.
