Speaking of cleaning the mirror, I too have a question.
I am considering an OM-1n that suffers from the dreaded
foam rot. But in this case, besides the foam around the
back, the foam that dampens the mirror has also turned
to sticky goo. So now my questions:
- There is a big gob of the sticky goo at the front
corner of the mirror, what is the best way to clean
it off? What is the danger of applying too much force
and pushing the mirror out of alignment?
- What is the best way to clean off the rotted foam
from around the focusing screen? Is it enough to
just scrape it off with a toothpick or should chemicals
be used (denatured alcohol or nail polish remover)?
- How important is this foam around the focusing screen?
If I just clean it off without replacing it, will it
damage the mirror?
- Do the pre-packaged "foam replacement kits" come with
replacement foam for the mirror damping?
Any other advice for dealing with this problem? Thanks.
