You can use the coated mylar foils. They are inexpensive and save if
made for the purpose of sun observation.
The special issue of "Spektrum der Wissenschaft", the German edition of
"Scientific American", contains a 16cmX16cm piece of such a foil. Should
be available in many German bookshops for 29DM.
For bigger pieces of mylar you might try shops selling astronomic
