: a) Film scanning. is a technique mentioned more than once. What is this.. (ie
scan
: negs via flatbed scanner?).

While many flatbad scanners support transparancy scanning, including slides and
negatives, their results are poor and you are better off scanning prints. True
high quality film scanning is done by using a dedicated high resolution (up to
2800 DPI) film scanner that accepts slides, color negatives and b&w negatives.
Film scanners are made by various manufacturers in various price and quality
ranges, from low end consumer scanners to high end professional scanners.
Olympus makes one in the low end range. Midrange and high end scanners are
produced by, amongst others, Nikon, Polaroid, Minolta, Canon, HP, Epson...

:c) A Few months back, I read an article in the uk photographic press about a
:development to replace the film cartridge with a device including a CCD and
storage
:device intended for slotting into the back of any 35mm SLR. The whole prototype
device
:was shown in a standard Canon EOS slr, and no mods necessary to the camera
body.
:Anyone lnow where this got to in development?.

Imagek's EFS-1 ( http://www.imagek.com ) is in its "prototype" phase for more
than two years now, its introduction postponed many times, turning everybody's
enthusiasm into cynicism.
