It's a lot easier and cheaper to build the power pack yourself. Since
you're in North America, you can get all the parts you need at your
local Radio Shack. The plug is called a Coaxial DC Power Plug with an
outer diameter of 5.5mm and an inner diameter of 2.5mm. The Radio Shack
part number is 274-1573A and should only cost a few dollars for a set
of two. At Radio Shack you can also get a battery holder for 4 D size
cells, some wire, and if you're going for a deluxe model, a switch.
Now all you have to do is solder everything together and you're all set.
Just remember that the centre pole of the plug is the negative.
