I was also surprised that the OM1 with mirror lockup still allowed a
considerable amount of vibrations (we assume) to degrade the image of the
250. It has long been lore amongst us astrophotographers that the best
way to operate a camera's shutter is to time the shutter with a HAT
rather than the camera's controls. Yeah, that's right: let your hat hover
over the front of the lens, fire the shutter, wait a second, remove the
hat, time off the exposure, replace the hat, and close the shutter. It
has worked great for me at nighttime, but I suspect it'd take some pretty
fancy hatsmanship on the part of you daytime photographers.
I should also add that the diaphram blades within the 250 are massive
things; I suspect that diaphram vibrations are a concern especially for
180/250/350 owners, but I guess Gary's tests will tell us if this is the
case.
