There's the Kenyon Gyro, which has been around for a long time, and can
be rented from many pro shops, and in a far more elegant fashion,
the Canon Image Stabilizer lenses (35/1.4L, 100-300, 300/4L, and 28-135)

Themoplastics are far more suited to the task, but the camera industry
is always a little behind the times....and produced in quantity, they
should be far cheaper.
