Most of the finest colors you see in NG are straight slide film.
Using the pro emulsions makes a difference, as do expert exposures
and knowledge of light and color. Most of what you see is straight
Velvia, Kodachrome 25, 64 & 200. For some articles, they have used
print film. The one that comes to mind is about a man who followed
Shackleton's route (in a boat of similar size).
For that, they used the then-new ISO 1,000 Kodak (was it VR ?),
and the grain worked well with the subject matter. The color was
great, too.
