It was an (used) black Hexar and the manual showed how to engage silent
mode. There was an difference between silent and non-silent mode,
affecting most filmtransport and focusing.
I was curious about the mythical Hexar silent mode after reading an
article in PhotoNet. The author claimed, that the Hexar is that silent,
that it is sometimes difficult for the photographer to detect if the
camera has fired or not.

Firing the camera I was able to hear the shutter working, as it was the
shop clerk over the counter.
Yes this camera is more muted than any automatic camera known to me, but
not as silent as the fama goes.
