I'm 32 and first tasted Zuikoholism with an OM10 outfit bought off a family
friend with my paltry savings at 16. It came with a 50/1.8, 35/2.8 and
Tamron 80-210. I really wanted a chrome OM2n, which was the best looking
35mm camera in the magazines at the time (1981). This wish came true after
the OM10's shutter failed twice in a short period. I nagged and nagged my
folks, who finally gave in and bought me a *brand new* OM2n for my 17th
birthday. That was the best thing they ever did, er, I mean bought. It was
my only OM for 9 years, it went everywhere and coped with everything, and is
still used regularly.
The last year or so has seen a number of purchases, all secondhand, and the
body count now stands at five - including an OM2SP, two OM1n's and an OM1md.
I remember a time in the early 90s when I was beginning to wonder about the
hype - that Nikon was the only answer if one wanted to take one's 35mm
photography seriously. I resisted, since I never had the money and couldn't
bear to part with my faithful OMs. I find Nikons too big, too square, not
svelte enough for my hands thankyou - I guess I've been spoilt. And of
course they focus the 'wrong' way - the opposite way to OM lenses. Joining
this list has convinced me (as if I needed it) that I was wise to stick with
what I'm happy with. It hasn't helped my finances much ;-)
