Sorry to waste everyone's bandwidth, but in my hurry to rave an unrelated
subject, I forgot :-/ to bring up a couple of informative tidbids:
(a) the above Tokina (and, AFAIK, all other Tokinas and Tamrons) is
fully compatible with the Olympus 1.4X-A TC, while most Sigmas are
not (their rear baffles are too narrow);
(b) if compact size and light weight are crucial, it's worthwhile to
consider the Tamron SP 350/f5.6 mirror lens. In my recent encounter
with this lens, it acquitted itself admirably well. It's a bit
larger than the Zuiko 500/f8, but is mach easier to focus, and also
has a built-in tripod mount.
