If meters are that bad your exposure for the red barn will also be out by 2
stops in your B&W exposure - it is the spectral response of the meter that
"seems" to be at fault, not the film.
Surely the spectral response of a meter cell is well characterised by the
cell (semiconductor) manufacturer. I know I have seen spectral response
curves for CdS cells in the past - but never seen one with 2 stops variation
over the visible spectrum.
