Boken is the Japanese word for fuzzy! Originally used as a negative term, it
has also come to mean the quality of the out-of-focus image for camera lenses.
A lens is considered to have good "Bokeh" if images out of the plane of focus
are soft and syrupy. Conversely bad "bokeh" is a harsh/non syrupy out of plane
images. It is most desirable in a portrait lens, since you want the person or
object to stand out without the viewer becoming aware of whatever the
background is.
