This is the definition I use too of contrast.

Now this is interesting. What do you mean by "control"? And how can you
control
the contrast?
Just curious, maybe I have the chance to learn something... ;-)
[Dave Bulger] One method of controlling contrast is during negative
development, i.e. underdeveloped = less, overdeveloped = more. Adams' Zone
System 101. I'd suggest picking up his book "The Camera" -- 'twill explain
lots & lots.
