Gary:
I carry on thinking is a good idea to check the zooms at his "standard"
focal lengths. (75-150: 85,100 and 135 and also 75 and 150mm).
Particulary, I have a great interest to confront the 135 f3.5, 2.8,
and the 135mm of the 75-150, 100-200, 65-200 or 85 250, for instance.
I know this is an addicional cost in film and time, but a real
comparative test v/s the others Zuiko lenses.
What think about this question the other
List members ?
I have 30 rolls of Sensia II 100 ASA testing my Zuiko lenses in clear days
with the spanish light of April and May at 9, 10 or 11 a.m.
I think they are "real time and light tests" shooting with tripod
from a 3rd floor in aprox. 45º to a building in front with grey walls
(aprox. 18%), brown bricks, a wonderfull red-brown in the tiles (tejas),
and a lot of awnings with solid colours, a lot of themwith colour blue and
parallels thin white lines for definition, and a lot of white railings in
the balconys. In the first plane there are a lot o others elements like
threes, little houses with the black slate in the roof, etc, etc.
I call a test " ALL THE 50´s", for instance, and test all the 50mm and all
the zooms at 50mm in all apertures.
"ALL THE 85" = 85 f2, 85 of 85-250, 85 of 75-150, 85 of 35-105...
"ALL THE 135" = 135 f3.5, 2.8, (75-150), (85-250) at all apertures, ad
so...
Or I have tests for only one lens:
"35-105 v/s ALL OTHERS" On this I test this zoom at 35, 50, 85, 100 and 105
at all apertures, and 35 2, 35 2.8, 35 (Zoom f4), 35 (Zoom 3.6), 35 (Zoom
3.5-4.5 ), 35 (Zoom 28-48) and 35 2.8 SC.
The 50mm of this Zoom 35-105, and 50mm 1.4 MC & SC, 50 1.8 MC&SC, 50 (Zoom
f4), 50 (Zoom 3.6), 50 (Zoom 3.5-4.5), 48mm(Zoom 28-48) and the 50 macro
3.5... at all apertures, and so, so, so...
On this kind of tests I can compare "all the 50 that I have" or "all the
200 that I have", "all the 135"...
If i Have 35-105 and 75-150, for instance, I have interest on to Know the
performance or both lenses at 75 mm and I do the test at all apertures in
75mm. Or in the case of 180mm, I test this lens (2.8) at all apertures
v/s the Zoom 85-250 in 180mm at all apertures.
As I tell you before... More film and more time. But I know very well the
performance of all the lenses I have, in all possibles focal lenghs
comparisons.
Someday, when I summarize the data and performances, I can offer theese
tests to the List if anyone wont this "Real time and light test".
I think is a good test for use in combination with other technical test
like Pop. Ph. or M. Ph.
