I think it's the thrill of the chase. I've been contacting unsuccessful
bidders to sell stuff, and although I've had some success, several times
I've offered something below several of the bidders, and no one's even
replied.
It's not such an adrenaline kick to have something offer you something at
or below what you were willing to bid for it, I guess. Or maybe they're
just shills for the seller, driving the price up.
Obligatory OM content: I've been having fun with a 35 shift doing nature
photography. Most people think of it as a "niche" lens for architecture,
but it does wonders for waterfalls, trees, or anything with straight lines
that aren't parallel to the film plane.
