I used it for many years as my main macro lens, until I sold it to pay for the
50mm f/2.0 It produced many a sharp flower picture and folks seem to admire
landscapes shot with it. It was my sharpest lens. But having replaced a 50mm
f/18 SC for a MC, I now have two that are sharper: the 50mm f/1.8 MC and the
50mm f/2.0 Macro.
I do miss the f/22 aperture. It was very useful for controlling syncro
sunlight flash ratios in macro shots with 50 speed films. But image quality
does deteriorate at f/22. I don't miss the poor performance wide open. I was
using Direct Positive Film with a speed something like ISO 1.5 Getting the
f/2 was a godsend since I could take copy pictures at f/4 and f/5.6 with
decent resolution.
The 3.5 is quite petite, which will make a big difference when traveling light
and/or trying to standardize on 49mm filters. There is a beauty to that
petiteness, also.
