Dan,
I found (in a flea market for $0.50) a T20 with a missing panel and a
"shell half" crack as you describe. I removed the battery compartment
cover and batteries. This exposes a phillips head screw, which I backed
out a couple of turns. I then examined all around the crack for
displaced wires etc. When all was clear, I pressed the halves back
together and tightened the screw to snug only. No more crack !
