For the most amazing image I've ever seen as a result of digital compositing
a series of exposures into a single picture, see

February, 1998 total eclipse of the sun, as taken by Andreas Gada and
digitally manipulated in Photoshop by Jerry Lodriguss. The page also
includes an informative summary of how the film and digital parts were done.
It's well worth a few minutes to visit Jerry's site.
