John,
Do flashes dedicated for the OM-2N and OM-2S also work with the OM-4? If
not I would be extremely disappointed.
I have a Vivitar 4600 with zoom head and module dedicated for Olympus.
Works perfectly with OM-2N and 2S. In addition to working the camera's
ready light, it has its own sufficient light indicator lamp, as well as a
beeper you can turn on and off. The beeper indicates when the flash is
ready and also goes "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppp" to indicate sufficient
light after a flash. Works both with TTL/OTF and auto setting with OM-1's.
The beeper is annoying to have on continuously, but for the first couple
of shots when you are trying to determine the optimum f-stop, it is very
helpful and also allows you to concentrate your vision on focusing and
composing. It can be turned off as soon as it is no longer "needed".
I also have a Sunpak 433D for Olympus, which is more convenient for
supplying fill flash ratios, a little smaller and lighter, etc. The Sunpak
zoom head produces a little more elegant results in straight-on flash, too.
But the Vivitar is an outstanding flash. I also bought a cord thingy for
off-flash-shoe dedicated use. Works like a duo-sync, except that it is
about a 100 times better.
Sorry, undoubtedly more than you wanted.
Joel
