To answer Richard Dale's question about new Olympus products...
IF (and it's a BIG 'if') an OM digital back used three 24mmx36mm CCDs
with a resolution (each) of at least 2000x3000, and cost less than $3000
(hah!), I, like Michael Nesmith, would rush right out in a buying
frenzy. But I don't expect to get frenzied any time in the near future.
As for an OM-5/-6... The OM-3/-4 are cameras which reflect a unique
design philosophy. I don't see how they could be "updated" without
"renouncing" (at least to _some_ extent) that philosophy. But then, I'm
not anywhere nearly as clever as Dr. Maitani.
If (as has been stated) the autofocus OM project has been abandoned,
there is little hope for the long-term survival of the OM system. There
is, however, no reason an autofocus lens couldn't fit on a manual-focus
camera and operate properly, so I really wonder why Olympus dropped the
design.
