Hi Ted:
<< The lens is a 70-210 / 2.8-4.0 macro zoom ... Did you sent the wrong
lens?
That obviously was supposed to go directly to Matthew. But since your post is
public, I just thought I'd pipe up with a comment about the Vivitar Series 1
70-210 f/2.8~4.0 First, there never was anything called a f/2.8~3.5 - that
was a typo on Matthews part. But 3.5 vs. 4.0 is only 1/3 f stop! Susie and I
owned one of these lenses and gave it a fair workout in the field. In
controlled testing it was equal to a 70-210 f/4.0 Canon FD lens. Just a tad
heavier, which is why we eventally sold it.
The published lens tests on the Vivitar are very favorable. The only option
is a constant aperture f/3.5 version (actually two, as our Archives will tell
you) of the Vivitar 70-210mm zoom. I personally would use the f/2.8~4.0 on
any of my OM's. It is a winner.
