I think you need a bit more than 25mm to get 1:1 - I'd say the 50/1.8 only
gives about 10-15mm of helical extension, so you'd want around 40mm tube. The
Oly sizes are shown above (25,14,7), but a good source for a cheap tube are old
2X teleconverters, which can often be found for less than a tube. I removed the
elements from my Vivitar 2X TC, and it makes a 26mm auto tube. Glass simply
uncrews so it can be reassembled if desired.
