Hello Bob.
The lens was put on for direct sale at rec.photo.marketplace only TWO
HOURS AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES before you put it up for auction at eBay.
This is what alarmed me. And the warning I consequently issued was to
prevent people from buying directly, not the opposite - otherwise I
would have mailed to eBay (and to you, of course).
Mistakes can always happen, I know. And you must have felt you made
one when posting the next message to the newsgroup:
:Sorry guys. This post was in error. I had pre-written both ads and
:placed the wrong one here. I have only one 18mm lens and it is
:committed to the auction. The good news is that the reserve price at
:the auction is a lot less than $795.
:Regards,
:-Bob-
Now this was, albeit a little bit late, exactly what I hoped my
warning would result in.
BTW, I am not at all opposed to eBay - actually I made a lot of good
purchases there (and sold some items too). My userid is 'franklin'.
The only thing I don't like is, that from the listings it isn't
immediately clear which auctions have a reserve. That would make it
easier to avoid those if you wanted that.

Thanks, Bob. You understood things the way I meant them then. Let's
both keep posting here the way we regularly do: I value your
contributions too.
And... no hard feelings.
Frank.
