The CTX machines are utilized for scanning checked bags,
not carry-ons. There's more information about these devices

The last time I travelled with lead bags, the security guy in
Cairo picked up the bags, tossed them up in air a couple times,
asked, "Any guns or bombs in here?", then handed them back to me.
Didn't bother to x-ray them, either (true story).
FWIW, I carried much faster film than usual (Fuji 800, no lead bags)
on my recent junket with no apparent xray damage. Went two for four
on visual-only film inspection...
