This is a general feature with all combos of Winder 2 and OM cameras. My
three OM-1s, two OM-2sp, the OM-40 and the OM-4ti all do this. I presume
it was designed in, and it seems quite natural to me.
It is of course possible to make a remote release of any desired length for the
winder with a thumb release switch and a mono jack plug of the right size.
(If it is stereo you will have to 'mono-ize' it by soldering in a jumper wire
inside the plug.)
