1. If you do order from this guy, please don't tell him that you heard about
him on the OM list, or he'll be posting his ads here several times a week.
2. I personally would not order from this guy (especially considering that
there are alternatives), simply because he posts his ad an average of probably
2 to 3 times per week on the rec.photo.marketplace and
rec.photo.equipment.35mm newsgroups. (Some times he spares the newsgroups for
a week or so, but he makes up for it some other weeks by posting about every
other day.) I have nothing against the guy personally (other than his
incessant advertising), and I have had no personal dealings with him.
I would suggest that you might instead consider ordering from Doug Roach
(roachdf@xxxxxx), at "Canadian Quality Concepts", 101 Fife Rd., Guelph,
Ontario N1H-6X9, Canada. The prices are similar, his newsgroup ad postings
are infrequent enough to be tasteful yet frequent enough to be helpful. I
have ordered from Doug before (including just recently, within the last month)
and have been pleased with the fresh Varta OM-1 (625) batteries he has
shipped.
Despite the alleged "border crossing" problem hinted at in the "FS: <<< PX625
MERCURY BATTERIES>>> ORIGINAL, IN US" guy's postings, and despite the
occasional newsgroup thread about this non-problem (which at least distracts
some minds from the usual bashing of eBay, Shutterbug, AOL, etc.), I have not
had any problem with Doug Roach "sneaking" my Canadian mercury batteries
across the border into the US (even in a mailer blatantly marked "Camera
Batteries Enclosed").
I guess I'll apologize (sort of) for telling people where to buy their camera
batteries (which, after all, is a *very* personal thing, I suppose), but I
would ask that you NOT do anything to cause "Mr. All Capitals" to start
numerous postings on the OM list.
I'll get off my soapbox now. Well, it was just my two f-stops worth. Thanks.
Fred
